How to get maker skill

What is the Maker Skill?

The maker skill is a new skill introduced in patch version 0.73. The maker skill was released at the same time as the Knights of Cygnus patch. The maker skill allows you to create items for your class. The catch is you cannot create items that meet any of the following:

-6 or more levels above your current level.
-Common items. (Yes, this includes Capes, Work Gloves, and the like)
-Gachapon items. (Sorry Heros, still have to buy your Stonetooth.)
-Exceed the level limit for your current maker skill level. (75 for level 1, and 105 for level 2)

The maker skill provides an advantage over forging from NPCs, or finding drops, because you have much more control over the turnout of the item.

How do I get the maker skill?

Note: Any class, with the exception of beginners, can get the maker skill
Level 1:
You must be level 45 to acquire Maker Skill Level 1.
The Maker skill is acquired through NPC Moren, found in the Weapons and Armour shop of Magatia. When you go to see Moren, he will give you three quests you must complete:

1. Go see NPC Hughes the Fuse who can be found in the hidden room, entered through B2 in Orbis Tower. Hughes will proceed to teach you a lesson, I advise you pay attention.
2. Go see NPC Carson, the Alchemist. Carson can be found in the Zenumist Society building. Again, Carson will proceed to bore you with text. Again, I advise you pay attention.
3. Go back to NPC Moren, and listen to his lesson. Once again, pay attention!

Once you have completed all three lessons, talk to NPC Moren again, and he will proceed to quiz you on the lessons. This is why you should’ve read all that text. But no. You thought you were too important. But that’s okay, cuz its a really easy quiz and you can guess your way through it no problem. Congratulations, you now have the maker skill!

Level 2:
You must be level 75 to acquire Maker Skill Level 2.
Huzzah! You’ve reached your third job advancement! First of all congratulations on that. Second of all, its time to upgrade your maker skill!
Head back to the Magatia Weapons and Armour shop, and talk to NPC Moren. You will receive a quest to create an intermediate monster crystal 1. Gather up 100 etc drops from a monster level 71~80, and create your monster crystal. It is reccomended to use Homunculus & Site drops, as they can be found right there in Magaita Talk to NPC Moren, finish the quest, and go show off your level 2 maker skill.
Note: There IS a chance of failure on this quest. Moren will NOT always accept your crystal. I got it first try, but some people had to try up to 6 times. Just keep at it.

Level 3:
You must be level 105 to acquire Maker Skill Level 3
Well, level 105. 15 levels away from the 4th job advancement. Your getting pretty strong right now, and standard items just don't cut it. This is where the maker skill is at it's best.
To get level 3, head back to the Magatia Weapons and Armour shop, and talk to NPC Moren. Moren will treat you to yet another long, drawn out conversation you really don't care about. Once he's finished, talk to him again and acquire Doodly Paper. Next, open up your maker skill window, and do the following:

1. Select etc. from the first drop down menu
2. Select etc. from the second drop down menu.
3. Combine 6 gold plates, 2 steel plates, 1 Lidium, and the doodly paper.
4. Receive Gold Anvil.
5. Talk to NPC Moren.
Moren will give you the Maker Skill level 3. You can now socket 3 gems, make every item (assuming your level is high enough) and make reverse and timeless equips!

When should I be using the Maker Skill?

Unless you are making average equipment, and gathering all the materials yourself, the maker skill gets very expensive, very quickly. In my opnion, the best time to be using the maker skill is levels 90-200. This is when it becomes excessively difficult to get your equips another way, and you have a stable enough income to be able to afford the expenses.
By no means am I saying you shouldn’t use the maker skill before level 90, I’m just saying it will take a lot more mesos out of your pocket than you expect it to.

I’m ready to make things! Erm, how?

Now for the fun bits. Open up your skillbook (hotkey standard ‘k’), and tab to you beginner skills. Alongside your nimble feet, monster rider, etc, etc, there is your maker skill! Double click on it to open your maker window. (Note: I advise against hot keying the maker skill, as you must click the ‘x’ to close it, and it can lead to some perilous situations when fumbling for pots)
First, select the type of item you want from the first drop down menu. Next,
select the specific item from the second drop down menu. Your screen will now show the required ingredients, along with how many you currently possess.
Every equip item requires at least Monster Crystals, and magic powders. Weapons require plates, and some other things require other refined ores.
Quite simply, once you have all the required ingredients, click the ‘create’ button, and s back while your character works his magic.

What are Monster Crystals / Magic Powders, and how do I get them?

Monster crystals are acquired by combining 100 etc drops from a monster in a certain level range. Hover your mouse over the monster crystals you need in the ingredient screen to find out the right level range.
You can also acquire monster crystals by disassembling items.

(Note: You can only make monster crystals from monsters that appear in your monster book. Nothing from Singapore or Zipangu can make monster crystals!)
Magic powders are used to ‘paint’, ‘colour’, or ‘dye’, your item the particular colour. Dark Nisrock? Black powder. White Nisrock? White powder. You get it by now. Magic powders have about the same drop rate as ores, so use basil’s maker skill item section to find what monster drops the colour you need.

How do I disassemble an item?

Open your maker skill window, and select the “disassemble” options. Place the item you wish to disassemble, and work your magic. You can only disassemble items that can be made. Disassemble anything else, and you get nothing. Disassembling also only gives you back monster crystals. Stimulators, gems, and other ingredients are lost.

That equip was boring!

Don’t bite my head off over it, Nexon made the skill, not me. Anyway, this is where it gets REALLY interesting. Each item has the potential for 2 types of modifiers. A stimulator, and gem sockets. A stimulator will randomly affect one property on your item, but adds a 10% chance of failure to the creation process. If you have high DEX, LUK, or INT, you’re in luck, because you also have high hands, and this reduces the chance of a stimulator causing creation failure.
Gem sockets are the most interesting part about the maker skill. (IMHO) Gem sockets allow you to take your item, and add certain gems, increasing a particular statistic on the item. The catch is, you can only socket one of each type of gem per item, and your gem sockets are limited by your maker skill level.

Level 1 – 1 Sockets
Level 2 – 2 Sockets
Level 3 – 3 Sockets
There is an avaiable space for a fourth socket, but no items that can currently be made can use the fourth slot.
Items you can make with Maker level 1 can only use 1 slot, 2 two slots, and 3 3 slots.

The gems are as follows: (Gem, Statistic, Bonus [basic, intermediate, advanced] conditions)
Diamond, + Weapon Attack (1, 2, 3) Useable on Weapons only.
Sapphire, + Magic Attack (1, 2, 3) Useable on Weapons only.
Garnet, + Accuracy, (2, 3, 5)
Opal, + Avoid, (2, 3, 5)
Aquamarine, + Jump, (1, 2, 3)
Amethyst, + Speed, (1, 2, 3)
Topaz, + HP, (10, 20, 30)
Emerald, + MP, (10, 20, 30)
Black Crystal, +/- Random, (1, 2, 3) (Atk, M. Atk, Speed, or Jump)
Dark Crystal, +/- Random, (2, 3, 5) (Str, Dex, Int, Luk, Accuracy, or Avoid)
Power Crystal, + STR, (2, 3, 5)
Dex Crystal, + DEX, (2, 3, 5)
Wisdom Crystal, + INT, (2, 3, 5)
Luk Crystal, + LUK, (2, 3, 5)

Secret Crystal, - Level Requirement (1, 2, 3) Currently not available.
So it is possible to add 6 attack to your clean weapon, (without the use of a stimulator) but you have to be ridiculously lucky.
Make a weapon, socket an Advanced diamond, and an advanced Black Crystal. Hit the random crystal on attack, and your now rich.
This also brings up options for chaos scrolling. You can take something such as your level 90 shoes, add a stat that isn’t normally found on it. (example: I added an advanced amethyst to my Dark Ades shoes, I got 8 dex, 5 speed, 5 slot shoes.) If I go on to use chaos scrolls on these shoes, I could (extreme luck required) get 30 speed on these shoes.
With the Secret Crystals, (once they come out, grrr nexon.) I could be using a
Dragon Shinebow (lvl 110) at level 107. Awesome no?
One thing to take note of, you must gather 10 ores of the gem you want, and
refine them. Then use your maker skill to refine the gem into a basic gem. Refine 10 basic gems into an intermediate gem, and 10 intermediate gems into an advanced gem.
You do have a small chance to refine into a higher grade gem, and I believe the percentages are something like this:

1 Gem > 1 Basic 85%
1 Gem > 1 Intermediate 10%
1 Gem > 1 Advanced 5%
10 Basic > 1 Intermediate 85%
10 Basic > 9 Basic 10%
10 Basic > 1 Advanced 5%
10 Intermediate > 1 Advanced 90%
10 Intermediate > 9 Intermediate 10%

Dex, Power, Wisdom, and Luk, Dark, and Black Crystals have a different set of percentages. Somewhere along the lines of:
1 Gem > 1 Basic 90%
1 Gem > 1 Intermediate 9%
1 Gem > 1 Advanced 1%
10 Basic > 1 Intermediate 89%
10 Basic > 9 Basic 10%
10 Basic > 1 Advanced 1%
10 Intermediate > 1 Advanced 25%
10 Intermediate > 9 Intermediate 75%

These percentages ARE affected by your maker skill level. The percentages I have listed are for level 3. The intermediate > advanced percentages seem to be reversed if you do not have level 3 maker skill. (I failed 8 advanced Dex crystals in a row, with maker level 2)
There is also speculation that the percentages are affected by your hands stat. While this is unconfirmed, I believe it is true.
Finally, refining and upgrading gems costs you a bundle:
110,000 to refine a gem into basic
330,000 to refine basic into intermediate
550,000 to refine intermediate into advanced.
If you can get advanced gems, it is SO WORTH IT. You can get some AMAZING stats on your items, without blowing money on scrolls.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, what the heck is "Hands"?

Hands is the previously useless stat that can be found in your detailed stat window. (Standard hotkey "s") Hands is calculated by adding your Dex, Int, and Luk togeter. Example: Magician with 40 Int, 8 Luk, and 4 Dex, will have a hands stat of 52.

What are reverse and timeless equipment?

Reverse and timeless weapons are incredibly powerful weapons that gain experience and level up as you do. When these items level up, they gain statistics. (Note: Once you equip a timeless or reverse item, it become IMPOSSIBLE TO TRADE) At the moment, timeless weapons are impossible to get, as they require a drop from Pink Bean to be created. And no one can beat the little bugger can they?
Reverse Weapons require a TON of materials, including Pieces of Time. Pieces of Time are dropped by the monsters found in the Temple of Time, and do not need to be refined.

Gordon's Magic Iron

While you are in Magatia, Stan will give you a quest to go see NPC Gordon, Gordon can be found in the El Nath Market. Once you talk to Gordon, he will ask you to gather 100(?) Jr, Yeti Skins, and 50(?) White Fang tails. Talk to Gordon with the items, and you will recieve "Gordon's Magic Iron". Equip this item, and you will be able to make two scrolls: "10% Scroll for Cape for Warming", and "10% Scroll for Shoes for Spikes". The cape scroll will enchant your cape to prevent health loss in El Nath due to cold, and the shoe scroll makes your shoes like snowshoes. Both scrolls do not use slots, and can be used on an item with no slots. The Scrolls are also untradable.

Where can I farm monster crystals?

Basic Monster Crystal 1 (31-50): Cold eye. Level 40, decent experience. Also drops chaos scrolls. Best map is 'Dungeon: Another Path' Basic Monster Crystal 2 (51-60): Two choices here, go either to Coolie Zombies (The Forest of Dead Trees) or Skeleton Soldiers (Camp 1, 2 or 3). Zombies drop gold teeth, Skeletons drop 60% glove for attack scrolls. Your choice. Basic Monster Crystal 3 (61-70): Hidden Street: Authorized Personnel Only. Site found here have a good spawn rate. They aren't great for exp or other drops, but that's not why your here. This map can be acessed by hidden portal, on top of the skinny platform in Alcando Research Insitue: Lab - Area C-2. Intermediate Monster Crystal 1 (71-80): Harps. Enough said. I would reccomend channel surfing on the maps, untill you find someone training or leeching there. Either ask for the drops, or run around like the looting fiend you are. Intermediate Monster Crystal 2 (81-90): Blood Harps, Gobys. Similar to the last level. If you are training/leeching there great! If not, loot, loot, and loot some more. Intermediate Monster Crystal 3 (91-100): Red Wyverns. Similar to the last two, loot! Advanced Monster Crystal 1 (101-110): Newties, Skeles. Train/loot. Advanced Monster Crystal 2 (111-120): Oh boy. Are you ever screwed now. Skelosaurus is your only choice. Monsters in the Temple of Time drop the right stuff, but Skelesaurus is much better. Advanced Monster Crystal 3 (121+): I hope you enjoy grinding, because that's what you're going to have to do. Chief Oblivion Monks, Chief Oblivion Guardians. Reccomneded Level 160+. The advantage here is that by this time your making Reverse and Timeless equipment, and you need the peices of time these guys drop anyway.
